How to Use the Teacher Resource Library

The Teacher Resource Library consists of lesson plans, activities, web-based activities, videos and website links. These resources are from a variety of sources; provincially, nationally and internationally. All the resources on our website have been reviewed and linked to the Saskatchewan curriculum. Please be aware that these are only suggested curriculum fits and feel free to use any resource as you see fit in the classroom.

Many of the resources are available in pdf format on the website. Other resources can be ordered from AITC and some are links to outside sources.

The resources are organized in the following manner:

1. BY GRADE

The resources are broken into the following categories:

  • Lesson plans
  • Activities (includes experiments, action-oriented learning activities)
  • Web based activities/resources (includes webquests, interactive games)
  • Videos (both VHS and DVD)
  • Teacher Guides (includes teachers guides and fact books)
  • Hands-on Teaching Tools (learning tools and kits that you can order or borrow from AITC)
The resources are listed alphabetically by title within each category
Before each title will be a colour coded rectanglar box indicating which subject the resource is applicable to. The colour codes are as follows:

Subject Legend

After each title there is a suggested curriculum fit: stating the unit the resource fits into as well as a brief description and the organization or individual that produced the resource.

Example:

Science A Threshing Competition

  • Suggested curriculum fit: Unit: Plants. Children separate seeds from the heads and learn concepts of time and weather during harvest.
Reproduced with permission of Alberta Agriculture Education Program

2. BY TOPIC

The other method of searching is by topic, which follows the same process except that a grade range is given as opposed to a specific grade.
The resources are organized into the following topics:

  • Animals/Livestock
  • Biotechnology
  • Careers
  • Environment
  • Farm Safety
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Plants, Crops, Seeds
  • Social Issues
  • Soil/Land
  • Technology
  • Water
  • General agriculture
  • Energy

Example:

Practical and Applied Arts Breed Diversification

  • Suggested curriculum fit: Grades 10-12. Students research various breeds of beef cattle, identifying traits specific to the breed.
