Settlers traveled in early spring at a rate of 27 km. per day if they used oxen and 45 km. per day if they used horses.
In 1901 the size of an average Canadian farm was 50 hectares (124 acres).
This field was fallowed by a Noble Blade which was invented in 1936 by Albertan Charles Noble.

In 1900 a homestead cost ten dollars for a 160 acre piece of land and farmers were given the title to the land if they lived on it, cultivated at least 40 acres and built a house on it.
In 1907 most children went to school in a one room school house. Teachers were unmarried young women, marriage disqualified them from teaching.
