Mary was born in Lacombe, Alberta and lived in Regina, Saskatchewan and Ottawa, Ontario. She has a Masters of Pest Management and PhD in Plant Pathology from Simon Fraser University. From 1984 to 1986, Mary was a Research Fellow in Soil Science at the University of Western Australia. Her work with Philom Bios began in 1987 as a research scientist; currently she is a Research Team Leader. Mary sat on the Scholarships and Fellowships Committee of NSERC, and is currently the Vice President of the Canadian Phytopathological Society. Mary volunteers with the literacy organization READ Saskatoon and is the current President of the READ board.
